Experience Counts in Material Joining and Heat Treating

Joining & Heat Treating

PMTI's joining capabilities have developed over 50 years. We do process development and qualification on joining problems.

Welding

  • 3-1/2' diameter x 4' long Stainless Steel (SS) GTAW chamber with 1-1/2' diameter x 6' long extension, ultra-pure inert atmosphere; Merrick Engineering 300a power supply and Amptrack microprocessor controller - the GTAW chamber is especially suited for refractory and reactive metal welding

  • Automatic or semi-automatic GTAW with Cyclomatic AVC custom setups as required

Brazing and Soldering

  • 1650° C hydrogen furnace, horizontal ceramic muffle, 4" x 4" x 48" hot zone; programmable

  • 34" diameter x 48" long SS chamber for vacuum or inert atmosphere brazing or soldering;
    24" x 24" quartz lamp radiant heater array for melting of preplaced filler alloy with programmable heating cycle control

  • 1900° C cold wall vacuum brazing furnace, tantalum heaters, 5" diameter x 5" vertical hot zone; programmable

  • 1350° C cold wall vacuum brazing furnace; graphite heaters, 12" x 14" x 12" hot zone;
    programmable

  • 1100° C infrared brazing system utilizing a quartz retort to 10-5 torr; programmable

  • 1200° F PV/T Vacuum Aluminum Brazing Furnace, SS Chamber, 10-5 torr, 150 Kw, 7 zones of control, 24" W x 36" H x 48" L; programmable

Diffusion Bonding

A variety of equipment at PMTI can be used to do diffusion bonding. Depending on the application, the process variables of temperature, force, and atmosphere need to be managed, and PMTI has the ability to assemble the necessary system. The Heatherington Furnace and the Hot Press are two such systems that are commonly used to do diffusion bonding.

Heat Treating

PMTI does heat treating at very high temperature and in a variety of atmospheres including ultra-high vacuums.

  • 1650° C hydrogen furnace horizontal ceramic muffle, 4" x 4" x 48" hot zone; programmable

  • 2100° C Centorr cold wall furnace; 3" D x 8" High hot zone; hydrogen and vacuum; programmable. This furnace is capable of higher temperatures using optical pyrometry in the manual mode

  • Two 2000° C Brew cold wall vacuum furnaces; 5" diameter x 6" vertical hot zones, with refractory metal internals; one programmable

  • 1350° C AVS cold wall vacuum furnace, 12" x 14" x 12" hot zone, graphite heater; programmable

  • Two Astro graphite element tube furnaces; 3" diameter x 6" vertical hot zone; 2300° C in vacuum or 2850° C in helium; programmable

  • 1480° C Lindberg Hevi-Duty Globar furnace, 6" x 5" x 15" refractory brick chamber

  • 1370° C Pereny Globar Furnace, 28" x 24" x 48" refractory brick chamber; programmable

  • 1200° C Lindberg clam shell furnace; 7" diameter x 36" horizontal; three zone programmable

  • 450° F Gruenberg Walk-in Oven; 72" x 48" x 75" atmospheric; programmable
